San Jose Japantown History Book Project

A book titled, San Jose Japantown: A Journey 1890 to 2006, is scheduled for publication in late 2006. The book is the result of many years of research. It covers the origins of Nihonmachi (San Jose Japantown) up to the present day and contains photos from public and private collections.

The San Jose Japantown history book is being produced by Jim Nagareda, Janice Oda, Ralph Pearce, Monica Smith, Ward Shimizu, and Curt Fukuda. Profits from sales of the book will be donated to the Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj).

Note: Originally, the San Jose Japantown book project was an interactive CD-ROM with a virtual-reality tour of Nihonmachi using QuickTime VR technology. The CD-ROM has been dropped to focus on a book. Hopefully, the materials created for the CD-ROM will be used in a future exhibition.
